Definition

Governance is the process of governing and ruling or the act of governing. It is different from government in the sense that government, refers to a structured system to govern a region, state, or country. It could also be defined as a body which formulates laws and has a legal right to enforce it within a given territory.

Introduction

In common parlance, governance and government are treated as synonyms by many, but in recent decades, studies have established that these concepts are disparate, both theoretically and empirically. In theoretical terms, governance is the process of governing. It is what government does to their citizens. But it is also what corporations and other organizations do to their employees and members. Whereas government refers to political institutions, governance refers to processes of rule wherever they occur (Bevir 2012, 3)....
