Definition

In Mexico, Roman Catholicism is the church with the most parishioners to this day. However, from the 1970s onward, Protestants, Pentecostals, Evangelicals, Christians, non-Evangelicals, and others have emerged socially, among others, which have been settled in various Indian localities, transforming their religious context.

The Ethnic-Religious Situation in Mexico

Mexico, after Peru, is the country with the largest number of indigenous people in the Americas. In fact, this great ethnic diversity throughout the national territory is odd since it is not a homogeneous population group, because it contains 11 linguistic families and 68 language groupings, which are subdivided into 364 linguistic variants that are spoken (INALI 2012). Important sectors of the population maintain their languages or original dialects, as well as their ancestral customs, which must be considered in order to comprehend the volume, the location, and the sociodemographic characteristics of this sector...
