Definition

Ismael Rolón was a Paraguayan archbishop and defender of human rights. He was born in 1914 and did his priestly studies in Italy and Argentina. He died in 2010.

Biography

Ismael Blas Rolón Silvero was a Paraguayan archbishop, known for his social commitment and defense of human rights. He was born on 24 January 1914, in Caazapá, a city in southern Paraguay. However, he spent much of his childhood in the country’s capital, Asunción, where he went to school (Conferencia Episcopal Paraguaya 1972).

In 1927, Rolón entered the Salesian seminary in Manga, Montevideo, Uruguay. He began the novitiate in 1931 and made his first profession of religious vows in the Salesian Congregation of Don Bosco the following year (Conferencia Episcopal Paraguaya 1972).

In 1935, Rolón moved to Rome, Italy, to complete parts of his priestly studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University (Gregoriana), receiving a licentiate in philosophy in 1938. He studied theology at the Salesian International...
