Epistle/Letter in the Renaissance

Abstract

The epistolary genre flourished intensely during the Renaissance; if the fifteenth was the century of humanistic Latin epistolography, in the sixteenth century there arose a “fashion” of books of letters in the vernacular and even treatises on the subject. However, over the course of the century, the original vitality of the letters gave way to their complete codification.
