Definition

Microdata rounding is a family of masking methods for statistical disclosure control of numerical microdata; a similar principle can be used to protect tabular data. Rounding replaces original values of attributes with rounded values. For a given attribute Xi, rounded values are chosen among a set of rounding points defining a rounding set (often the multiples of a given base value).

Key Points

In a multivariate original dataset, rounding is usually performed one attribute at a time (univariate rounding); however, multivariate rounding is also possible [1, 2]. The operating principle of rounding makes it suitable for continuous data.
