Abstract
Aaron Director (1901–2004) is often recognized as the founder of Chicago law and economics and a leader in establishing the postwar Chicago School. This biographical essay explores Director’s early life, that is, his high school and college years, and his principal contributions to the postwar Chicago School.
Robert Van Horn is an assistant professor of economics at University of Rhode Island. His research has primarily focused on the history of the postwar Chicago School. He is a coeditor, along with Philip Mirowski and Thomas Stapleford, of Building Chicago Economics (Cambridge University Press, 2011). History of Political Economy and Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences, among others, have published his work.
