This site is located on the border between Paraná State, southeastern Brazil, and São Paulo. It has a core protection area of 4,700 km2 surrounded by a 12,236-km2-long buffer zone. It is the largest reserve group with the highest quality forests on Brazil’s Atlantic coast. The 25 reserves in its heartland have rich biodiversity and are also the last remaining Atlantic coastal forest. The dense forests in the mountains, the gentle wetlands in the foothills, the islands and sandbars in the coastal areas, the karst landforms, the rivers and their estuaries, and numerous waterfalls make up the diverse natural beauty.
