At the 5th National Academic Meeting of Tourism Earth Science in December 1990, all repesentatives discussed the affiliation of the tourism earth science organising committee. Affiliations with both the Geological Society of China and the Tourism Association of China were suggested. In August 1992, the Geological Society of China approved the formation of the Committee of Tourism Earth Science, Geological Society of China, which is externally known as the China Tourism Earth Science Research Institute.
