Zhucheng (Shangdong) Dinosaur National Geopark was included in the fifth group of national geoparks by the Ministry of Land and Resources in August 2009. It is famous for its Cretaceous dinosaur fossils and geological cross-sections. More than 12,000 dinosaur fossils have been unearthed, including hadrosaur vertebrae fossils, fossils of new species of dinosaurs, and fossils showing pathological changes. The colossal Zhucheng dinosaur fossil is approximately 16.60 m long and 9.10 m high. Other fossils include Mammuthus, Palaeoloxodon, fish, bivalvia, gastropods, conchostracans, ostracods, insecta, and plantae. The Cretaceous Laiyang Group, Qingshan Group and Wangshi Group are also located in the geopark, and laterite layers are widely scattered in the Wangshi Group.
