Waterfall

A waterfall is a rapid stream that flows down from a cliff or a steep ridge due to an abrupt change in the slope of the riverbed. The water falls to form a waterfall, usually along the fissure of a riverbed. Waterfalls generally consist of water curtains and the deep pools below them. Waterfalls in China are mainly distributed in the vast areas south of the Qinling-Huaihe line, especially in the Zhegan Mountains, the Yungui Plateau and the Himalayas. Based on their hydrological characteristics, waterfalls can be divided into perennial waterfalls, seasonal waterfalls and sporadic waterfalls. According to the formation mode, they can be divided into structural waterfalls, plug-type waterfalls, captured waterfalls, differential erosion waterfalls, karst waterfalls and glacial waterfalls.
