Volcanic rocks are also known as extrusive rocks, and they form when magma erupts onto the ground surface (or into water) and cools. The rock forms when lava erupts in a relatively calm eruption and it is often composed of fine-grained or crystalline minerals or amorphous glass. If the magma bursts out in the form of a violent eruption, the resulting rock contains clastic rock or minerals in addition to the fine-grained or cryptocrystalline minerals or glass, and the rock is known as pyroclastic rock. In China, more than 20 national geoparks have volcanic rocks as the theme, which cover the entire range of volcanic rocks.
