The tentative list of world heritage, also known as the ‘preparatory list’, is an inventory of properties situated in the territory of each province that is intended to be considered for nomination for addition to the World Heritage List. To ensure the establishment of a representative, balanced and credible World Heritage List and attempt to reduce the costs that are incurred in the application for and review of heritage, the World Heritage Committee encourages each province to update the tentative list in a timely fashion. In addition, nominations to the World Heritage List will not be considered unless the nominated property has already been included on the province’s tentative list.
