This site is located at the southwestern corner of Tasmania in Australia. The expansion in 1989 increased the core protection area to 13,836 km2. The heritage area was significantly affected by glaciers and has many deep gorges. It is one of the few remaining temperate rainforest regions in the world. The remains of limestone caves provide evidence of the human occupation of the area for more than 20,000 years.
