A structure has a pattern that is called the structural grain, which includes lines and planes. A rock’s structural grain refers to all textural lines and planes (structural planes) and includes both primary and secondary structures, divisional structures (such as fault planes) and indicative structures (such as fold axes) as well as all types of structures that are formed by internal dynamics (crustal movements) and external dynamics (non-crustal movements).
