This is a type of volcanic eruption named after the Stromboli Volcano on the west coast of Italy. It is characterised by an overflow of moderately viscous magma with low energy bursts. The magma composition is mainly basaltic-andesitic, and it is moderately to extremely thick. The erupted materials include spherical spindle-like volcanic bombs and volcanic slags. The volcano’s form is generally a volcanic cone (Fig. 47).
