This is an archaeological term for the early stage of human history. Early human beings relied on stone tools for protection and living. The Stone Age was the initial stage in the development of human culture and was also the longest period of human development. It covered almost the entire Quaternary, Pleistocene and Early Holocene, which was from approximately 3 million years ago to approximately 4,000 years. A few human tribes still use stone tools. In archaeology, the Stone Age is divided into three stages, namely, the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic ages.
