This geopark is located in the low valley along the middle reaches of the Dashi River in Xishan, Beijing. It became a national geopark in 2002. It is composed of Shihuadong and Yinhu Caves, which formed in Cambrian Ordovician and limestone. Shihua Cave has seven floors; the first to fifth floors have a total length of 5,000 m and are dry, and the 6th and 7th floors contain underground rivers and water-filled caves. Silver Fox Cave is a single layer of caves containing an underground river. The two caves are rich in secondary chemical sinks, with the former producing milkstone and large numbers of stone flowers and the latter producing silver-white acicular calcium burrs resembling ‘upside-down silver foxes’.
