This geopark is located in western Ruyang County, Henan Province. It covers an area of 122 km2, and most of the geological features are concentrated in an area of 50 km2. It became a national geopark in 2011. They key attractions of the geopark are its dinosaur fossils, granite landforms and stratigraphy. The geopark has a complete stratigraphy and a complex structure. The dinosaur fossils are characterised by their age, large size and new genus. They include important dinosaur bone fossils with scientific significance for studying the distribution, classification, migration, evolution and extinction of the Cretaceous Sauropoda in China and Asia as well as for studying the geographic extents of ancient animals. The discovery of the Ruyang Ankylosaurus fossils was important for studying the classification of Ankylosaurus and added a new specimen of China’s Ankylosaurus fossils, and it extended its geographical distribution southward.
