Topographically, an old marine basin is a basin-like ancient continental sea. An ancient continental sea (platform sea) located in a platform area will evolve into a marine basin. Examples include the Huanghai (Yellow Sea) Basin on the Sino Korean Platform in the Middle-Late Carboniferous Epoch and the Yangtze Basin on the Yangtze Platform in the early Palaeozoic Era.
