Ningcheng National Geopark, Inner Mongolia

Ningcheng National Geopark is located in Ningcheng County, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It became a national geopark in 2009. The main geological features include fossils, geological profiles and hot springs. Daohugou oryctocoenosis, which belongs to the Yanliao biota, was preserved in the Middle Jurassic Jiulongshan Formation. The other fossils were preserved in the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation and belong to the Jehol biota. The park represents the transition between the Yanliao biota and Jehol biota and is therefore a world class fossil location. The hot spring water is from the shallow subsurface, and it is abundant, having high quality, has a high content of trace elements, and reaches temperatures up to 96 °C. The hot spring water is sulphuric, acidic, nonuniform high-temperature fissure water.
