In August 2000, based on the National Geoheritage (Geoparks) Leading Group and Staff Notification (Department of Land and Resources No. [2000] 68), the Ministry of Land and Resources established China’s National Geoheritage (Geoparks) Assessment Committee. It comprises members from different professional backgrounds, such as geosciences, environment, planning, tourism, environmental conservation and management, and is responsible for assessing the qualifications of applicants.
