This geopark is located on the northern border of the Liuhe District in Nanjing and is bounded to the north by Tianchang City, Anhui Province, and to the east by Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Its major geological heritage covers an area of 60 km2. Nanjing Liuhe National Geopark was designated as one of the fourth group of national geoparks by the Ministry of Land and Resources in August 2005. Its main geological attractions include Neogene volcanic clusters, groups of columnar joints and Yuhua strata. The landform is composed of hills, hillock farmlands and alluvial plains. Its terrain is high in the north and low in the south. The mountains are not high but are beautiful, and most are shield volcanos. Ye Mountain, the highest mountain in the geopark, is 231 m above sea level, and its peak is mainly composed of basalt.
