This geopark is located in the southern foothills of Wumeng Mountain and on the slope of the Eastern Yunnan Plateau at the junction of Yunnan, Guizhou and Guilin Provinces. It extends to the southwestern Yunnan Plateau and is known as ‘the Gate to Eastern Yunnan’. It became a national geopark in 2011. Luoping County has typical karst landforms with a strong ethnic culture. Large and diverse fossils are well-preserved in Luoping. This area is called the ‘Triassic Marine Biological Fossil Repository of China’ and has significant scientific research and popularisation value. The great traveller Xu Xiake from the Ming Dynasty once wrote that ‘Luoping is famous in East Yunnan’.
