Lufengosaurus huenei is a Saurischian fossil that was found in Lufeng County, Yunnan Province. It is 2.6 m tall, 4.5 m long and 1.55 m wide. These animals lived from the Late Triassic to the Early Jurassic. They had small heads, long necks, saw-like teeth and long, strong tails. They walked with their hind limbs, which were longer than their forelimbs. Lufengosaurus mainly fed on plants. It is one of the oldest dinosaurs that have been found in China and was the first dinosaur fossil excavated, studied and assembled by Chinese scientists alone; therefore, it is called ‘China’s First Dragon’. It is similar to the fossils discovered in the Late Triassic strata in western Europe (Fig. 48).
