A liman coast is a coast composed of silty sand and silt with a flat coastline, a gentle slope, and a wide shoal. Liman coasts are mainly located in relatively sheltered sedimentary coastal areas near estuaries with an abundant sediment supply. Examples include the coastal section of the Dahe River, which is a subsidence area that is sheltered by sandbars where large amounts of sand and silt are deposited. The three types of liman coast are the plains type, which are found along the northern Jiangsu coast, the fortress type and the harbour type.
