This is a type of lacustrine erosion landscape consisting of steep cliffs facing a lake that are formed by the scouring of lake waves on bedrock. Due to the continual impact and abrasion of waves along the lake shore, rocks near the lake surface are scoured to form concave cavities with overhanging rocks. Upon further erosion, the hanging rocks fall to form vertical cliffs. Their formation is similar to that of marine cliffs but at a smaller scale. The study of the spatial distribution of lake cliffs is a key to understanding the development of lake landforms and the related neotectonic movements (Fig. 3).
