This is a representative type of carbonate rock stone forest landscape. It is composed of Proterozoic siliceous dolomite strips. It is a typical pagoda-like stone forest landscape in the Baishi (White Rock) Mountains in Laiyuan, Hebei Province. This landscape is characterised by a combination of clustered columns (peaks) that look like pagodas standing along the valley edge or on the ridgeline. They look like a pagoda forest when viewed from a distance. The column edges are angular, which is an indication of weak dissolution but strong gravitational disintegration. Baishi Mountain in Laiyuan, Hebei Province, is a typical karst stone forest in a semi-arid area in northern China. The Baishi Mountain area of China’s Fangshan Global Geopark is composed of this landscape (Fig. 1).
