Kilimanjaro Volcano Landscape

This is a dormant volcano in northeastern Tanzania near the Kenyan border. Known as the shining mountain, its foothills have a tropical climate, but the summit is alpine. Kilimanjaro Volcano includes three peaks, which formed during volcanic eruptions approximately two million years ago. The peak has a crater that is approximately 1,800 m in diameter, which erupted 1,000 years ago. It is now dormant, and the crater is filled with ice and snow with icicles on the edges. Fumes are occasionally emitted near these icicles. The foothills are covered with tropical forests that are populated by wild animals; hence, they are called the world’s zoo for wild animals. The temperature decreases by 6 Â°C with every 1,000 m increase in elevation, and the areas with temperatures below 0 Â°C have permanent snow cover.
