Residual rock columns with similar upper and lower sections caused by the erosion of carbonate rocks along vertical fissures can form a karst column landscape. The columns are generally more than 5 m tall and can be up to tens of metres tall, and the relative height is greater than the column diameter. Few columns form in isolation, and most are in clusters. They are usually located along the margins of karst peak clusters or along the banks of karst canyons. Typical examples are the Yunnan Stone Forest, Guan Mountain in Xinxiang, Henan Province, Baishishan in Laiyuan, Heibei Province, Chaibuxi in Qingjiang and Yunlong River Canyon, Hubei Province (Figs. 5, 6, 7, and 8).
