Jixian National Geopark, Tianjin

This national geopark is located in northern Ji County, Tianjin. The main geological features are the Neoproterozoic stratigraphy and palaeontological fossils. It became a national geopark in 2002. The Neoproterozoic section in Songxian County is famous for its complete rock formations, continuous outcrops, well-preserved and simple structures, clear top and bottom boundaries and low metamorphism. The stratigraphic section is located north of Changzhou Village (Jiushanding) in Xiaying Town at the foot of the Great Wall and extends to Junjunshan in the county town to the south, with a length of 24 km and an average width of 350 m from east to west. It represents the period from 1.8 billion to 800 million years ago. The complete sequence of continuous deposition is a national standard profile.
