They use easy-to-understand words and expressions, pictures and diagrams to explain the scientific, ecological, cultural and historical significance of the scenic features. They are usually bilingual in Chinese and English but can also be in other languages, such as Korean, Japanese and Spanish. The panels and boards are set up at safe and convenient locations, usually on major walking trails, where tourists can gather and rest.
