This geopark is located in Songpan County in the Aji Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It became a national geopark in 2004. The park is characterised by cold and karst landscapes. The main peak is Minshan, which has a height of 5,588 m above sea level. The karst deposits in the middle of the valley led to the formation of more than 3,400 Yushancai pools with a total area of more than 80,000 m2, a length of 3.6 km and a width of 30 to 170 m. These pools are arranged like a ‘golden dragon’; therefore, Huanglongou is the Chinese name. These features, in addition to five karst waterfalls and four stalactite caves, create a unique and representative temperate highland karst and travertine landscape.
