Higher Education System Development
Introduction
Senegal is located in West Africa on the Atlantic Ocean and its area is 196,722 km2. It is bordered by Mauritania in the north, Mali in the east, and Guinea and Guinea-Bissau in the south, and it surrounds most of the Gambia. Senegal gained its independence from France in 1960 (IMUNA 2018). It has a population of 15.9 million in 2017 with annual population growth of 2.8%. About half of it lives in rural area. Population aged 14 years and younger represents 43% of the total (UIS 2019). Senegal is one of the most stable countries in Africa and one of West Africa’s key economic hubs (World Bank 2018).
