Posterior Segment Manifestations of Tuberculosis

Abstract

Intraocular tuberculosis may have protean clinical manifestations and often presents as a diagnostic challenge. The disease affects the posterior segment more frequently where it may manifest as choroidal granulomas, serpiginous-like choroiditis, retinal vasculitis, or subretinal abscesses. One of the phenotypes of ocular tuberculosis is a distinct type of posterior uveitis, termed as multifocal serpiginoid choroiditis (earlier referred to as serpiginous-like tuberculosis). This condition is characterized by serpentine choroidal lesions that bear resemblance to the autoimmune serpiginous choroiditis. The index chapter focuses on the clinical and imaging features, management, and complications of tubercular posterior uveitis.
