Zusammenfassung

Depression ist die häufigste nicht-organische psychische Störung im Alter. Depression im Alter stellt einen Risikofaktor für körperliche Erkrankungen, funktionale Beeinträchtigungen, Demenz und sogar Mortalität dar. Das Symptomspektrum von Depression im Alter ist größer als in jüngeren Altersgruppen. Da Depression im Alter oftmals im Kontext somatischer Erkrankungen oder neurologischer Syndrome auftritt, können unterschiedliche klinische Erscheinungsbilder vorliegen. Die Entwicklung depressiver Symptome im Alter ist in der Regel ein hoch komplexes Ergebnis einer biografischen Verkettung lang-, mittel- und kurzfristiger biologischer, sozialer und psychologischer Risiko- bzw. Stressfaktoren. Die steigende Anzahl (sehr) alter Menschen sowie die Pluralisierung und Individualisierung des Alters machen eine zunehmende Differenzierung der Behandlungsangebote und Erweiterung des therapeutischen Repertoires erforderlich.
