Recently it was shown that protein kinases (PKs) control important biological processes in schistosomes as well as that other PKs are involved in the etiology of cancer. This led to the development of several anticancer drugs that inhibit deregulated PKs. Thus there are approaches to use these PKs-blockers as tentative new antischistosomal medicaments in future, if praziquantel should loose its activity against schistosomes.
