Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in VET in Russia: New Developments

Abstract

This chapter focuses on the status of vocational education and training (VET) in the Russian Federation, which has dramatically changed. The problem of training highly qualified mid-level manpower in VET institutions is due to the emergence of modern technologies, the widespread use of computer technology. Modern economy requires such middle management specialists who are able to solve new tasks in complex and constantly changing conditions. This chapter highlights how modern information and communication technologies, being both a goal and a means of training in VET, open up new learning opportunities and contribute to the formation of key competencies of future specialists to satisfy the demands of present-day labor market. A lot of new professions have emerged in the modern labor market, and this has led to the necessity of new competences’ development. Nowadays new professional standards are being introduced in Russia, and along with the other purposes, they aim at changing the content of vocational education and training.
