Definition
The World Health Organization (WHO 2019) defines quality of care as “the extent to which health care services provided to individuals and patient populations improve desired health outcomes.” Quality of care can broadly be understood as referring to the extent to which a person’s care-related needs are addressed (Cohen-Mansfield et al. 2018), although different definitions of quality of care have been advanced, focusing on specific service-related aspects as well as social dimensions of care. Quality of care has also been measured in previous studies using more precise definitions. Some studies have defined quality of care in terms of the likelihood of receiving specific forms of care (Katz et al. 2018) or in terms of relationships between care providers and patients, reflecting both health-related and social dimensions of care...
