A structured yet flexible system of housing and daily living designed to promote maximum levels of independence and life participation among individuals with histories of acquired brain injury.

Current Knowledge

Transitional living services are part of a comprehensive continuum of care for survivors of acquired brain injury. Transitional living environments offer supports (e.g., external supervision and structure) to help individuals compensate for residual physical and cognitive disabilities. Typically, transitional living services are provided to those who continue, beyond the acute phase of recovery, to require greater levels of assistance in completing activities of daily living than their families can provide at home.
