Introduction
Peter Steinglass is a psychiatrist, clinical professor, and president emeritus and director of the Ackerman Center for Substance Abuse and the Family in New York. Dr. Steinglass has been a significant researcher and contributor to academic psychiatry and medical and mental health institutions with his work on understanding family factors in substance abuse treatment.
Career
Peter Steinglass attended Union College from 1956 to 1960, where he received his bachelor of arts in humanities. In 1960, Dr. Steinglass went on to Harvard Medical School, where he graduated 5 years later with his medical degree. From 1974 to 1990, Dr. Steinglass taught at George Washington University as a professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. In 1990, he became president & CEO of the Ackerman Institute for the Family and held this position for 15 years.
