Abstract

Operating room workers are a subset of health care workers. Their work involves the preparation for, performance of, and cleanup after surgical procedures. Operating room workers are exposed to skin irritants and allergens. Wet work and exposure to cleansing, disinfecting, and cleaning agents are key risks for irritant contact dermatitis. There are a variety of allergens that may cause allergic contact dermatitis. Operating room workers may also be at risk for contact urticaria.
