Metropolitan Governance Answers to Problems of Urbanisation
Metropolitan governance arrangements vary based on two factors: (1) governance mechanisms that consist of combinations of hierarchies and networks and (2) the administrative tiers that primarily steer the structure. This article ponders the sources of success and failure of metropolitan governance in the realm of these factors.
Metropolitan areas are becoming more and more important, as larger proportion of people live in cities all around the world. This creates multiple opportunities. Metropolitan areas produce higher GDBs than the states’ average. Urban spaces create social and cultural platforms in which new forms of human activity can develop.
