Training in Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy
Introduction
The Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Training Center is an outgrowth of the Family Therapy Training Center founded by Salvador Minuchin in 1975. The Center’s Director, Dr. Marion Lindblad-Goldberg, developed a more current model in the early 1980s. Her model, Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT), is a systemic, strength-based, and trauma-informed family therapy model that evolved from Dr. Minuchin’s Structural Family Therapy model (Minuchin 1974).
ESFT is an evidence-based model that targets treatment in outpatient or in-home community settings for families of children and adolescents with moderate to severe emotional and/or behavioral problems who are deemed at risk for out-of-home placement (Lindblad-Goldberg 2011; Lindblad-Goldberg et al. 1998, 2004; Lindblad-Goldberg and Northey 2013).
