Abstract

Hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC) is a column chromatographic separation technique frequently used for the purification of macro-molecules such as proteins and polynucleotides. Purification schemes often are improved by incorporating HIC along with ion exchange, size exclusion, and affinity chromatography HIC has found wide use for the purification of membrane proteins (1), serum proteins (24) nuclear proteins, polynucleotides (5), receptors (6,7), cells (8,9) and recombinant proteins (1012).
