Abstract

Gap junction-mediated intercellular communications are known to be important for tissue growth, differentiation, and signaling (1). To experimentally probe the roles played by connexins in tissue development and function, we describe here a retroviral approach that has been successfully used to express nonviral exogenous connexins in embryonic chick lens in vivo (2). The expression of the retrovirally transduced connexin genes is found to be colocalized with their connexin counterparts in vivo.
