Abstract
The Staden-Plus software is an old menu-driven version of Rodger Staden’s software for manipulation of DNA and protein sequences that will run on an IBM compatible PC. This program is of use to those workers who do not have access to the newer versions of these programs, which are described in greater detail in Chapter 15–27 of this book. The PC version is very user-friendly, owing in part to the menus used to take the user through the programs and also because help is available at all levels by pressing <;F10>. It is helpful, however, to have an idea of the overall structure of the program (Fig. 1). The user enters the program through the master menu after selecting a working directory. From the master menu, the user can select the fol lowing programs: SEQIN, sequence entry; DBAUTO, automatic screening and contig assembly; DBUTIL, sequencing project main tenance; ANALYSEQ, DNA sequence analysis; ANALYSEP, protein sequence analysis; DIAGON, sequence comparison; GENAX, GenBank databank access; ANCIL, ancillary programs (Chapters 18–25). Each of these programs has a menu offering a number of further options. In order to access another program, the user must return to the master menu; <;esc> takes you back up through the structure to the master menu.
