Abstract
Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis is a simple, yet versatile, high resolution technique for the analysis of complex mixtures of proteins. However, this is not to say that this method is without problems. For example, where a series of different protein samples are run on a gel, many of the proteins will have the same mobility and it is frequently impossible to be certain if these bands represent the same protein or whether they simply share similar mobilities. Conversely the samples may contain degradation products or structurally related proteins of differing mobilities.
