Isolation of Human Hepatocytes

  • Protocol

Part of the book series: Methods in Molecular Biology ((MIMB,volume 481))

Abstract

Protocols for isolation of human hepatocytes have been developed. The isolated cells can be used not only in research but also for transplantation in patients with liver disease, especially acute liver failure and liverbased metabolic/synthetic conditions. The aim of hepatocyte transplantation is to correct the missing liver function(s) and allow either the recovery of the liver or buy the patient time until a suitable donor liver is available for transplantation.
