Methods and Techniques in Ethnobiology and Ethnoecology

Abstract

Studying the relationship between humans and nature requires a lot of fieldwork dedication from researchers. In order to understand phenomena related to human behaviors and their link to nature, ethnobiologists often use qualitative and descriptive methods and techniques, such as participant observations and field journals. In this chapter, we define these two methods and discuss the manners for collecting, analyzing, and presenting the information collected. Moreover, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using these methods in ethnobiological research.
