Neuroradiology

A Journal Dedicated to Neuroimaging and Interventional Neuroradiology

Publishing model:

Neuroradiology - Anniversary Issue - 50 years Neuroradiology

Neuroradiology appeared in April 1970 one year after the European Society of Neuroradiology was founded. It was one of the first scientific journals solely devoted to this young medical speciality. At that time, before the invention of computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, and before widespread use of endovascular therapy, some radiologists, neurologists, and neurosurgeons recognized the need for specialization in the field of diagnostic radiology (Editorial by E. Lindgren Neuroradiology 1970, 1:1-3).

This special issue of Neuroradiology features a number of Editorials commenting on the young medical speciality in the early 70s of the last century and includes several frequently cited articles that demonstrate the development of independent Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology disciplines. Hand-selected by the Editor-in-Chief as representative of the Journal’s content during the last 50 years, as we celebrate this landmark anniversary, these articles represent milestones of the revolutionary development of Neuroradiology and illustrate its broad field.
